Closest to World-Famous North Drop, First Charter Fishing Option in BVI

SCRUB ISLAND, BVI (January 11, 2006) – The $70 million Mainsail Resort Marina & Spa development on Scrub Island in the British Virgin Islands is progressing with the construction of a 65-slip marina. When completed, the Mainsail Scrub Island Marina will be the closest marina to world-famous fishing hot spot, the North Drop, and will be the first in the British Virgin Islands to offer charter fishing services. Accommodating vessels up to 150 feet in length, the marina will be surrounded by a colorful assortment of unique shops and a marine supply store. The first development of its kind in the area in more than 20 years, the Mainsail Investment Property Resort Marina & Spa is scheduled to open in the summer of 2007.

The new marina will be a welcome addition for anglers in search of the North Drop’s blue marlin, white marlin, yellow fin tuna, wahoo and sailfish. Currently the closest marina and charter fishing operations are more than 20 miles away in St. Thomas, USVI. Considered one of the Atlantic’s deepest points, the North Drop draws baitfish through the temperature fluctuations at different depths, which attracts large game fish. Each August it is also the site of the annual Atlantic Blue Marlin Tournament, best known for being the first tournament in the world to release blue marlin.

In another first, Mainsail has an agreement with the British Virgin Islands government to provide slips for charter fishing services. Approximately ten of the marina’s 65 slips will be dedicated to charter fishing, making it convenient for locals, tourists, and Mainsail owners and guests alike to fish the legendary waters. The remaining 55 slips will be available for rent to Mainsail Resort Marina & Spa owners and guests.

Located on the unspoiled 230-acre tropical paradise of Scrub Island in the British Virgin Islands, the Mainsail Resort Marina & Spa development will also include a world-class spa and luxurious residences and estates. Once completed, this new island-hopper’s escape will feature a spectacular collection of 90 hotel rooms, which include two-bedroom Marina Suites, stand-alone Ocean View Villas, and a handful of residences, all situated on 55 acres of the Caribbean’s most desirable real estate. Ocean View Villas and Long View Residences are still available for purchase, but the island’s Marina Village Suites are sold out.

Each villa, suite, and residence will be a wholly- and privately-owned asset. Unlike timeshare or fractional ownership arrangements, owners who choose to have their property maintained and rented by the professional resort management team will receive a share of room revenues from all the units. Apart from the main resort development, 54 private estate lots are also available for purchase on the island.

Scrub Island is just a short five-minute ferry ride from nearby Beef Island, where commercial airlines offer frequent flights from Puerto Rico, and where private aircraft can also fly directly. Ferries will also depart from St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands.
